Background

Like a brick and mortar retail store, promotions are an important tool for increasing on line sales. EP 6.1 provides you with an easy way of creating promotions for this purpose.

There are two types of promotions available in EP 6.1, Shopping Cart promotions and Catalog promotions. Shopping Cart promotions are designed to increase the number of items in a customer's shopping cart, and can only be used by eligible customers. They don't display to all shoppers in a storefront. An example of a Shopping Cart promotion is giving the customer free shipping if they spend $150 or more in total on the goods in their shopping cart. (Please see the Shopping Cart Promotions Tutorial for more information.)

Catalog promotions on the other hand, are designed to increase sales of specific products from a catalog and are available to all customers of that catalog. This type of promotion displays to all shoppers viewing a storefront. A typical Catalog promotion might offer the customer 15% off the price of a specific camera brand and model.
