This tutorial will familiarize you with creating and changing customer orders via the Elastic Path 6.1 Commerce Manager.
What you will learn
- How to place an order for a customer
- What the order status means
- How to modify an order with "Inventory Assigned" status
- How to modify an order with "Released for Pick/Pack" status.
Background
Using Customer Service activities in Commerce Manager allows you to place and modify customer orders. However, customer orders change status as they are processed through the Elastic Path system. This in turn, requires customer service reps to use slightly different work flows to modify an order, depending on the order's status.
Scenario for this tutorial:
Sean Shopalot is shopping online for some camera equipment. Uncertain about actually purchasing online, he phones in his order for a camera and an additional digital memory card. As the responding CSR (Customer Service Representative) you place the order for him.
Later, Sean calls back because he has changed his mind and no longer wishes to order the additional memory card. The following day, he phones Customer Service yet again to ask that a camera case be added to his order. You're such a helpful CSR that you happily make all these changes to his order. Because Sean's order has progressed from one status to another in the time that has elapsed between his order change requests, you must use different work flow to make the changes to his order.
Prerequisites
Elastic Path Commerce 6.1 trial installation.
| Info The Trial installer does not configure the outgoing email service by default. If you wish to receive email confirmations for customer orders or changes to user accounts while working with this trial version of Elastic Path Commerce, you will need to enable the email settings. To do this, select the Configuration activity, then click System Configuration on the Configuration tab. In the Setting Name list, locate the COMMERCE/SYSTEM/emailEnabled item, and set it to "True". Then, set the COMMERCE/SYSTEM/mailHost item to your own mail server (for example: smtp_server.elasticpath.com ). |
